IT band syndrome (ITBS), also known as iliotibial band syndrome, causes pain along the IT band – which runs from the outside of the hip to the knee. This most commonly occurs from overuse, which can stem from unbalanced and repetitive exercise routines, excessive training, and muscle tightness or a lack of flexibility. Many runners, cyclists, competitive rowers, and endurance athletes experience ITBS. The condition can also develop from repetitively walking up and down stairs, wearing high heels
