The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. (CFDA) is a not-for-profit trade association whose membership consists of more than 350 of America’s foremost womenswear, menswear, jewelry and accessory designers.
Eleanor Lambert founded the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1962, bringing designers out of the ateliers and into the spotlight and thereby putting American fashion on the map. One of the top publicists of her time, Lambert played a significant role in promoting American fashion as an integral part of contemporary lifestyles.
The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund was established after 9/11 to help emerging designers and cultivate the next generation of American fashion talent. Since its inception, 189 designers have received mentoring and a total of more than $7.7 million in support.
Membership in the CFDA is by election and invitation-only. Candidates for Membership must be of recognized ability, standing and integrity and must be actively engaged in creative fashion design. The process for Admissions takes place annually each spring.

FMI was created to nurture, elevate, and preserve garment production in New York City, ultimately connecting fashion designers to local manufacturing.
