William Barclay Peat (the Pin KPMG) started his career in accountancy at just 17, 1891 working for Robert Fletcher & Co.

Founded in New York in the late 19th century, the company made a strategic international alliance early on in its history and grew rapidly to become one of the eight premier accounting firms in the United States.

The "K" comes from Piet Klynveld, who founded a Dutch accounting firm in 1917. "P" represents William Barclay Peat, who started an accounting firm in London in 1870.

In 1877 accountancy firm Thomson McLintock opened an office inGlasgow. Meanwhile in 1917 Piet Klijnveld opened his accounting firm in Amsterdam.
