Surfing icon Dale Webster, a California native who set the record for most consecutive days surfing, has died. Webster, also known as the “Daily Wavester” because of the incredible feat, passed away in Rohnert Park, Calif, his family confirmed to the New York Times and other outlets.

The Valley Ford man, known throughout the surfing world for his consecutive days surfing record, rode waves every day for more than four decades.

Webster led the FBI for nine years, a year shy of the full term for director. In May 1987, President Ronald Reagan was seeking a replacement for controversial CIA Director William J. Casey, who had died amid Congressional investigations into the agency’s covert activities.
