Marlins pitcher Ryan Weathers has gone through countless warmups during his baseball career, but Saturday's freak accident with catcher Nick Fortes had to be a first.

TAMPA — Miami starter Ryan Weathers pitched three innings after he was struck in the head by catcher Nick Fortes’ throw to second base following the final warmup pitch before the bottom of the first inning against the Rays on Saturday in the Marlins’ 11-10 victory in 10 innings.

Just moments before the first inning of Saturday’s 11-10 win over the Rays, Miami catcher Nick Fortes struck Weathers in the head with his throw down to second base. Weathers, 25, immediately dropped to the ground, with Fortes, 28, looking mortified from behind the plate.
