Hacked cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has declared a “war against Lazarus” and launched a new website tracking the group’s wallet addresses, hoping to crowdsource the investigative efforts. In return for submissions that lead to frozen funds, the exchange is offering 5% of what gets frozen.

North Korea's Lazarus Group is credited with hacking the Bybit crypto exchange on February 21, 2025, and stealing a massive $1.4 billion. According to blockchain security firm Elliptic, the stolen funds are likely being laundered through various methods to obscure the transaction trail.

The Lazarus Group, a cybercrime syndicate linked to North Korea, has long been a thorn in the side of the crypto industry. Since 2017, the group has stolen over $6 billion in digital assets, funneling the proceeds into the country’s ballistic missile program. The Bybit heist alone accounts for nearly a quarter of that total.
