Wells Fargo was released from a punitive, seven-year-long $1.95 trillion cap on its assets on Tuesday after the U.S. Federal Reserve lifted the regulatory measure, allowing the bank to pursue unimpeded growth.

The Fed’s restrictions were part of an enforcement action tied to Wells Fargo’s creation of millions of unauthorized bank accounts.

The regulator’s board Tuesday lifted the $1.95 trillion asset cap the bank has operated under since 2018, but certain provisions of the consent order remain.
