Sam Moore, formerly of the musical duo Sam and Dave, died at the age of 89, reports the New York Times. Moore died in the hospital after receiving surgery, his wife and manager, Joyce Moore, told the outlet.

Sam Moore, the surviving half and higher voice of the 1960s duo Sam & Dave that was known for such definitive hits of the era as “Soul Man” and “Hold On, I’m Comin,’” has died. He was 89.

Prater, renowned for his deep voice, tragically passed away at just 50 years old in 1988 due to a car accident in Sycamore, Georgia. Fast forward to 2008, the film "Soul Men" hit the screens, featuring two former singers grew who apart but had an uncanny resemblance to the real-life duo, prompting Moore to unsuccessfully sue over the similarities.
