In the seventh inning Friday night and the Sox trailing by three, Devers came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. Texas lefty reliever Hoby Milner spun a variety of breaking pitches and mid-80s fastballs over the heart of the plate and Devers was flummoxed, stranding three.

The teams split 16 hits, but catcher Jonah Heim slugged two solo homers for Texas and the Red Sox didn't score after the fourth.
