Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul says the state will allow minors to have access to gender-affirming hormone treatment, surgery, and social affirmation despite an executive order from President Donald Trump.

The Illinois attorney general joined 14 other state attorneys general in committing to protect access to gender-affirming care despite the Trump administration’s efforts to limit it.

Supporters of gender-affirming care called on the University of Illinois health care system to be clearer and more transparent about its commitment to providing gender-affirming care in light of President Donald Trump’s executive order seeking to end such care for minors.

After a week of uncertainty for Illinois hospitals and clinics over an executive order seeking to end gender-affirming care for minors, the Illinois attorney general issued a statement Wednesday saying the state will protect such care.
