The prime minister hopes more kids will be able to recreate his campaign stop and take a trip to the reef as he promises to help subsidise school excursions.

A trough over Townsville Waters will move offshore later today. A ridge will extend throughout the Northern Waters in the wake of the trough and persist for the next few days.
