On Thursday, after an existential crisis and a hiatus of close to two years, Chicago’s famous Lookingglass Theatre Company officially returns to public performances in its Michigan Avenue theater in the city-owned Water Tower Pumping Station.

Chicago's Lookingglass Theatre Company reopened its doors for the first time in nearly two years with a $2 million grant from the state of Illinois, expanding its lobby and hosting the world premiere of the play Circus Quixote.

A ribbon cutting was held Monday for the Lookingglass Theatre Company's new multi-purpose lobby at its home in the Water Tower Water Works building on Michigan Avenue.

The Lookingglass is also renaming its theatre space the Joan & Paul Theatre in honor of longtime supporters Joan and Paul Rubschlager — whose name also graces the Rush University Medical Center building that houses the Rush MD Anderson Cancer Center.

The Lookingglass Theatre in Streeterville is set to reopen later this week after undergoing renovations to its lobby, bar, and café.
