The University of Texas System will no longer allow its institutions, including UT-Austin, to sponsor or host drag shows, Chairman Kevin Eltife said in a statement shared with the American-Statesman.

The move comes a few weeks after the Texas A&M System issued a similar ban, which is being challenged in court.

The university system’s Board of Regents banned the art form in late February, calling it “offensive” and “demeaning” to women. But after the injunction, the annual student-run drag show, known as Draggieland, will be able to carry on March 27 as planned.
