Resilience, which was built by Japanese company ispace, aced a flyby of the moon on Friday evening (Feb. 14), coming within a mere 5,220 miles (8,400 kilometers) of Earth's nearest neighbor.

The company plans to livestream Thursday’s touchdown attempt on YouTube and X. If Resilience lands upright, Ispace will become the first commercial company outside of the US to pull off such a feat.

Ispace, like other businesses, does not have "infinite funds" and cannot afford repeated failures, Jeremy Fix, chief engineer for ispace's U.S. subsidiary, said at a conference last month.
