Minnesota on Tuesday joined a wave of states suing TikTok, alleging the social media giant preys on young people with addictive algorithms that trap them into becoming compulsive consumers of its short videos.

Attorney General Keith Ellison announces his office's lawsuit against social media app TikTok in his office at the Minnesota State Capitol on August 19.

Ellison is not seeking to shut down the app, but for TikTok to “clean up their act,” he said, citing violations of Minnesota’s laws and a need to protect children.
