The National Weather Service has confirmed a twelfth tornado touchdown during a massive line of deadly storms that swept across Michigan on March 30. It also said survey teams continue to look at a couple more areas that could show signs of twister damage.

The Grand Rapids National Weather Service has been busy since a line of storms whipped across the state on Sunday, March 30th.

NWS confirmed 12 tornadoes touched down across Lower Michigan on March 30, and an additional two tornadoes were reported in Branch County on April 2. Michigan typically sees 15 to 16 tornadoes a year on average.

A long recovery remains ahead for the Northern Lower Michigan communities that were hit by an ice storm during the weekend of March 28-30. Some students will have had at least two weeks off school once they return, and thousands of residents still do not have power.

Several state parks and facilities in Michigan have closed, while many trails have been closed indefinitely, after a historic ice storm devastated the area two weeks ago.

The historic blizzard did not impact the electrical grid in the devastating way this ice storm did, a power co-op CEO said.
