Protests over the immigration crackdown have been held in major cities throughout the U.S. in recent days. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass joined fellow Democratic mayors across the country Wednesday in calling for an end to the raids, which she called a provocation by the White House.
The National Guard has at times detained protesters in its deployment to Los Angeles, an official said Wednesday, as demonstrations against Immigration and Customs enforcement raids spread to other major cities.
Most of the evening was peaceful, with a few protesters turning to vandalism in a tight area -- actions that brought police to move in closer and ultimately work to disperse the crowd.
Since the start of the protests, the Los Angeles Police Department has arrested 385 people, USA Today reported on Wednesday.
The downtown curfew encircles the downtown civic center, including City Hall, the main county criminal courthouse, LAPD headquarters and federal buildings.
The curfew went into effect in part of downtown Los Angeles amid ongoing protests over the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.
