People in the United States die the earliest and live the sickest lives out of 10 developed countries, even though the United States spends the most on healthcare, a new report says.

The U.S. had the worst-performing healthcare system overall despite spending nearly double that of other countries

“Mirror, Mirror 2024: A Portrait of the Failing U.S. Healthy System,” published by The Commonwealth Fund Thursday, looked at 70 healthcare systems in 10 wealthy nations including Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the U.S. and compared them to one another.

“The U.S. is failing one of its principal obligations as a nation: to protect the health and welfare of its people,” said Dr Joseph R. Betancourt, president of the Commonwealth Fund, in a statement. “Too many Americans are living shorter, sicker lives because of this failure.”
