The Trump administration is investigating former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and pressing charges against a New Jersey congresswoman, leveraging its control over the criminal justice system to pursue Democratic rivals.
Cuomo is returning to politics with his run for mayor of New York City. He is the frontrunner to win the Democratic nomination. New York’s current mayor, Eric Adams, was elected as a Democrat but has become an ally of Trump and is running for reelection as an independent.
That office is headed up by former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, a Cuomo critic who unsuccessfully ran against him for state attorney general in 2006. A spokesperson for Cuomo, who is running for New York City mayor, offered a searing statement saying the Democrat had not been notified of the probe.
