To automatically create drawing canvas in Word using Group Policy, follow these steps: Press Win+R to open the Run prompt. Type gpedit.m sc and click the OK button.

Microsoft is adding an even darker mode to Word soon. The dark mode update means the canvas will now have an option to switch to a dark mode, instead of the bright white that currently exists today.

Each drawing uses its own canvas, which means you can create multiple drawings in the same document. Also, I mentioned you could use the Insert tab (in 365 desktop) if you don’t have the Draw tab.
