Millions of people in the Midwest and Great Plains are in the path of numerous severe thunderstorms expected on Monday. Kansas City is expecting winds up to 50 MPH and half-dollar-sized hail that could damage roofs or cars.
Aerial video footage from areas in the South and Midwest, including Kentucky, show a trail of destruction left by devastating storms and tornadoes.
Southern and eastern Oklahoma continue to see severe weather and the occasional tornado warning into Monday evening.
The storm was the latest severe weather to cause deaths and widespread damage in Kentucky. Two months ago, at least 24 people died in a round of storms that swelled creeks and submerged roads. Hundreds of people were rescued, and most of the deaths were caused by vehicles getting stuck in high water.
Cities such as Chicago, Minneapolis and Milwaukee are at risk for a severe weather outbreak, forecasters said.
The NWS confirmed a tornado struck southwest of Arnett. Residents were warned to take shelter. The agency said "risk for tornadoes and extremely large (3+) inch hail continues north and east of Harmon." Tornado warnings also have been issued for the towns of Sharon and Harmon until 7 p.m. May 18.
