The newest Spirit of Tasmania ship is finally set to leave Europe and start heading to Tasmania in just over a week.

Spirit of Tasmania IV has departed Scotland and is bound for Hobart, with its expected arrival announced as "late-August".

For European Waterways trips on the Spirit of Scotland or its sister-ship, the Scottish Highlander, the pick-up is late afternoon of the first day of the trip at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness.

In the meantime, the Tasmanian government has been looking at leasing out the ship. Spirit IV is being kept in Scotland because TT-Line claims it will be easier to lease it out from there.

Spirit of Tasmania IV spent about six months docked in Leith because it is too big to fit the port it was designed to serve.
