Lauder “was the driving force behind The Estée Lauder Companies’ international expansion,” the company said in a statement announcing his death.

He was best known for his success in business, notably the international beauty company he built with his mother, Estée Lauder. He was also an influential art patron.

The son of Estée and Joseph Lauder spent much of his life in Palm Beach, and helped to build and expand his parents' company.
