Renowned as the oldest Buddhist learning centre in Ladakh, Alchi Monastery is located 70 km from Leh in Jammu and Kashmir in north India on the bank of Indus River.

Alchi Monastery is considered as one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh. Basgo Monastery was built by Tsewang Namgyal and is the only monastery in Ladakh with murals surviving from 16th century.
