BYU is going with a familiar choice to replace longtime athletic director Tom Holmoe. Brian Santiago, Holmoe’s right hand for almost a decade, will get his crack at leading the department. Santiago has been at BYU since 1997, spending the last eight years as the deputy athletic director.

Brian Santiago, who has served as the Cougars' deputy athletic director since 2017, was named as BYU's new athletic director on Tuesday. In February, longtime athletic director, Tom Holmoe, announced his plan to retire following the 2024-25 season after 20 years at BYU.

BYU's national search for its next director of athletics ended in the same offices as Tom Holmoe, who will retire from the position this summer.
