There have been a lot of Edmonton Oilers games over the years in which they’ve trailed 3-0 in the first period — 102, to be exact. Those games have rarely gone well for the team in the past, and understandably so.

Despite being down 3-0 after twelve minutes against the hottest goalie in the league on Thursday night, the Oilers never wavered. They chipped and pushed and forced their way back from the early deficit, eventually pulling out a thrilling 4-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche.

After a thrilling come-from-behind victory on Tuesday, the Avalanche host the Edmonton Oilers in the second of a five-game homestand. This is the second of three meetings between the teams this season, as the Oilers won 4-1 in Denver on November 30, and they’ll play again in Edmonton on February 7.
