Like other formatting symbols, the Paragraph Marks ¶ can be of huge help. But you can turn off these Paragraph marks in Word, if you wish to.

The feature, however, can also make the document harder to read, as it muddies it with numerous symbols. Remove the paragraph symbols in Word by modifying the formatting marks options.

If Formatting marks or or non-printing characters are turned on in Word, it displays hidden characters such as Tab characters, Spaces, Paragraphs marks, Hidden text, Optional hyphens, etc.
