"XD could be as big if not bigger than Photoshop someday," said Scott Belsky, Adobe's chief product officer and leader of its Creative Cloud software. "This is the center of design.

Adobe XD is available for download now and works with Mac OS 10.10 or later. Each month, Adobe plans to release a new preview featuring community-driven improvements.

Adobe's XD respresents a clean slate for designer workflows and a starter plan aims to broaden its base.

Adobe says the update will enable easier collaboration with other designers. Starting today, cloud documents will be the default way of working in XD.

Digital UI and UX design firm Figma is being acquired by Adobe, which has competed in the same space with its Adobe XD software.
