Name change: From Google Webmaster Guidelines to Google Search Essentials, because, well, Google doesn’t think webmaster is a term used much these days and/or it is too narrowly focused.

Google is launching a simplified version of the Google Webmaster Guidelines and rebranding it as Google Search Essentials.

Google understands that Google Webmaster Tools can be used by everyone. The “webmasters” using the tool now include many people—programmers, SEO specialists, marketers, and more.

Google Sitemaps was in 2005, then in 2006, Google expanded the name to be called Google Webmaster Central. That name stuck for 14 years and now it has been changed to Google Search Central.
