Stellantis is halting production in Canada and Mexico due to a 25% tariff on imported vehicles, leading to temporary layoffs for about 900 U.S. employees in Michigan and Indiana plants.

Three local Stellantis plants will see temporary layoffs as the auto manufacturer assesses the impact of President Donald Trump’s recently announced tariffs.

A Stellantis spokesperson told the publication that the layoffs would impact workers at five Midwest plants, specifically the stamping plants in Sterling Heights and Warren, Michigan, as well as three plants in Kokomo, Indiana, that make transmissions and metal castings.
