Tata Electronics said on Friday it has bought a 60% stake in Taiwanese contract manufacturer Pegatron's India unit that operates an iPhone plant, beefing up the Tata group firm's position as an Apple supplier in a fast growing market.

( MENAFN - IANS) Mumbai, Jan 24 (IANS) In a fillip to the government's 'Make in India' initiative, Tata Electronics on Friday acquired a controlling 60 per cent stake in Pegatron technology India, which produces Apple products like iPhones.

Tata Electronics said on Friday it will acquire a majority 60% stake in Pegatron Technology India to grow its manufacturing footprint.

As part of this deal, Tata Electronics and Pegatron will integrate their teams, while the latter will undergo rebranding.

Pegatron India, a subsidiary of Taiwan-based Pegatron Corporation, delivers electronics manufacturing services (EMS) to major global clients, including Apple.

This comes as Tata Electronics is trying to move beyond supplying only to Apple. ET reported that the company is in talks with Xiaomi and Oppo to begin contract manufacturing for the Chinese smartphone companies.
