Edmundo Gonzalez, whom the White House called the “president-elect” of Venezuela despite Nicolas Maduro’s continued hold on the country, said his son-in-law was kidnapped in Caracas the day after he met with President Joe Biden.

Edmundo González, who is recognized by the United States as the president-elect of Venezuela, said his son-in-law was kidnapped by hooded men.

Edmundo González said his son-in-law, Rafael Tudares, was kidnapped while on his way to drop off González's two grandchildren at a school in Caracas.

Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez, who says he won a July presidential election and is recognized by multiple countries as president-elect, said he had a fruitful meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden and spoke at length with President-elect Donald Trump's security advisor.

Venezuela’s government has doubled down on its intention to arrest the opposition leader who claims to have defeated President Nicolás Maduro in last year’s election.
