Omead Afshar, who hails from California joined Tesla, some seven years ago. Afshar once ran Tesla's office of the CEO and oversaw construction of Tesla's 10-million-square-foot factory in Texas.

Omead Afshar, one of Elon Musk’s closest confidants, has been promoted to oversee Tesla Inc.’s operations in North America and Europe, according to people familiar with the matter.

Afshar, in his new role, will report directly to Musk, the Journal said. Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Shares of Tesla (TSLA) were down 0.1% after hours.
