Howell, the 18-year-old product of Glen Arven Country Club in Thomasville, Georgia, beat Jackson Herrington on Sunday at the Olympic Club, 7 and 6, to win the Havemeyer Trophy, the latest step in his rise up the amateur golf ranks.

Howell — a high schooler — took home the win at the U.S. Amateur in dominant fashion Sunday. In doing so, he became the youngest golfer to win the event since 2009 and the third-youngest golfer ever to take home the trophy.
