It looks like the outage started around 1:30PM ET, which is when reports began to spike on Down Detector. At 2PM ET, OpenAI posted an update to its status page, saying ChatGPT, the API, and its text-to-video generator Sora are “currently experiencing high error rates.”

ChatGPT users were ‘bored’ and unable to complete homework last night after the artificial intelligence platform went down. Over 50,000 people reported problems with the chatbot from 6pm last night, according to the monitoring site Downdetector.

OpenAI is working to fix an issue that caused major outages in its applications, including ChatGPT. A statement from the artificial intelligence (AI) company, posted on social media platform, X, just after 4 p.m. Thursday, noted "most" of ChatGPT, the API, and Sora were down Thursday afternoon.

A company status page showed ChatGPT and the company’s application programming interface (API) experiencing a “major” outage, while Sora had a “partial” outage. More than 12,000 people reported OpenAI-related in the last 24 hours, according to the monitoring site Downdetector.
