Former Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag has been named as the new Bayer Leverkusen coach on a deal until 2027, the Bundesliga club announced on Monday. He replaces Spaniard Xabi Alonso, who is joining Real Madrid.

LEVERKUSEN, Germany — Bayer Leverkusen has appointed former Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag as Xabi Alonso’s replacement. The Bundesliga club said Monday that the 55-year-old Ten Hag had signed a contract through 2027, making his return to coaching after he was fired by United in October.

Ten Hag has been out of work since his sacking by Manchester United in October and has signed a deal until 2027.
