The Greek island has a long history of earthquakes, but what is causing the recent series of quakes has scientists perplexed.

Earthquakes rattled Greece’s volcanic island of Santorini every few minutes overnight and into Wednesday as authorities bolstered emergency plans in case the hundreds of temblors over the past few days are a harbinger of a larger quake to come.

As of Thursday, February 6th, the entire island of Santorini is now under a State of Emergency, which is in effect until March 1st
