Once dubbed the "world's ugliest animal," the blobfish – scientific name Psychrolutes marcidus – has been named New Zealand's Fish of the Year in a competition created by the conservation nonprofit Mountains to Sea.

According to the British daily "The Guardian," the blobfish, often deemed the ugliest fish in the world, has been awarded the title of "Fish of the Year" in New Zealand. This enigmatic vertebrate dwells in the ocean's depths and gained fame due to its unusual appearance.

The Blobfish was crowned as the ‘New Zealand’s Fish Of The Year’ after being awarded as the 'World’s Ugliest Fish' back in 2013.
