The death toll in the aftermath of a typhoon in Vietnam has climbed to 233 as rescue workers recovered more bodies from areas hit by landslides and flash floods, state media reported.

Hundreds of other people have been injured in floods and landslides triggered by Typhoon Yagi and subsequent heavy rain.

A bridge has collapsed and a bus was swept away by flooding as more rain fell on northern Vietnam from a former typhoon that has caused at least 64 deaths in the south-east Asian country, state media reported.

The death toll in Vietnam from Typhoon Yagi has risen to 141, the government says as it warned that floodwaters are causing the Red River to rise rapidly and threaten to inundate downtown districts of the capital Hanoi.
