WAUKEE, Iowa — A Waukee man is one of the survivors on board the ferry that sank in the Bahamas on Tuesday. It happened just off of Paradise Island, near Blue Lagoon Island, a tourist destination.

Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings of the Royal Bahamas Police Force told Eyewitness News Bahamas the vessel began to take on water at about 10 a.m. due to rough seas.

A video on TikTok showed a two-deck ferry with "Blue Lagoon Island" painted on it sinking sideways. Another, aboard the sinking vessel, showed dozens of passengers in apparent alarm.
