NGC 4038/9, known as the Antennae or Ringtail galaxies, are a well-known pair of colliding galaxies in Corvus. Halton Arp designated them No. 244 in his famous 1966 Catalogue of Peculiar Galaxies.
This is one of the most spectacular images of Antennae Galaxies captured by the Hubble Space Telescope. The galaxies are also known as NGC 4038 and NGC 4039 — are locked in a deadly embrace.
Newly released photos show what are known as the Antennae Galaxies and the Tarantula Nebula. NASA says the galaxies are in the process of colliding some 60 million light-years away from Earth ...
Luetzgendorf says images of some of the interacting galaxies closer by (relatively speaking), like the Whirlpool galaxy and Antennae galaxies, bear some resemblance to the structure people are ...
but the merging of galaxies into a question mark-like shape has happened before — including a backward version formed by the Antennae Galaxies in the Corvus constellation. Additionally ...
These are the Antennae Galaxies; they began to collide about 600 million years ago, and their spiral structures have already been smudged away, yielding to clusters of new stars, seen here as ...
The Antennae Galaxies, part of the constellation Corvus, are colliding and going through a starburst phase marked by rapid star formation. (Credit: NASA) Among all space mysteries, the creation of the ...
Antennae Galaxies: They are a pair of interacting galaxies in constellation Corvus. They were discovered by William Herschel in 1785. 28 Sep, 2024 Tahir Qureshi ...

The year before, with only 16 antennas in operation, researchers led by Caltech’s Joaquin Vieira had peered through ALMA at 26 distant galaxies showing bursts of star formation. They were ...
