Anew Kilauea eruption began in a remote area of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park on Sunday, Sept. 15. This is the first eruption on Kilauea’s middle East Rift Zone (MERZ) since 2018 and it poses no immediate threat to life or infrastructure.

After five days of volcanic activity, the eruption in Kilauea’s middle East Rift Zone has paused Friday morning but an eruption could occur again in the near future, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
