Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who in March was wrongfully deported to El Salvador's infamous CECOT prison, was released from a jail near Nashville, Tennessee on Friday.

The Maryland father who the federal government mistakenly deported to El Salvador, brought back to the U.S., and then accused of human smuggling walked free on Friday—but now the government plans to deport him to Uganda.

Until Friday, it wasn’t clear whether officials would let Abrego Garcia’s criminal trial conclude before they initiated any removal proceedings.
