White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump is serious about wanting the NFL's Washington Commanders to go back to the name Redskins.
President Donald Trump is threatening the Commanders' NFL stadium deal if the team does not change its name back to the "Redskins," according to a recent post.
From 1937 to 2019, the NFL franchise in Washington was known as the "Redskins," and if the Commanders don't switch back to that name, Trump said he "won't make a deal" for them to build a new stadium.

President Donald Trump is threatening to hold up a new stadium deal for Washington’s NFL team if it does not restore its old name, which was considered offensive to Native Americans.
The team left Washington for Landover, Maryland, in 1997, but DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and the team announced a deal in April to bring the Commanders back to D.C. at the site of the old Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium. Trump supported the deal at the time, but the proposal is stalled before the DC Council.
Scott Turner, the HUD secretary and former Washington Redskins defensive back, backed President Donald Trump's push to change the Commanders' nickname.
