China, which has political and economic ties with both Cambodia and Thailand, says it welcomes efforts to end fighting between the South East Asian neighbours.

Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an "immediate and unconditional ceasefire" after five days of fighting at their border killed at least 33 people and displaced tens of thousands.

At least 35 people have been killed since the combat began on Thursday, and hundreds of thousands of civilians have fled the border areas where it is taking place.
