Parts of Laurel County, Kentucky, will be under a curfew for a week while the community recovers from a deadly and devastating tornado that tore through the area, bringing catastrophic damage to London.

Flags at the Laurel County Fire Department are flying at half-staff in memory of Major Leslie Leatherman, who began as a volunteer at the department over 30 years ago.

The family's home was picked up and thrown across the street when a tornado ripped through the area, destroying everything they own.

A family in London is recovering after losing their home of nearly five decades on Airview Drive after Friday's tornado. "When it hit it really surprised me," Daniel Henderson said. Henderson and his wife were in their basement when the tornado hit, saying they walked out of the basement around 1:15 Saturday morning.

Fire officials say a first responder was found on top of his wife, shielding her from the tornado, and he may have even known it was her.

A Laurel County firefighter who spent nearly 40 years serving his community died Friday night while protecting others during the devastating tornado outbreak in southern Kentucky.

The FOX 56 Weather Authority has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Pulaski County and is moving into Laurel County on Friday night into the early hours of Saturday morning.
