The earlier TV series won three awards at the 1981 Golden Globes -- best drama, best actress and best actor. The latest incarnation of "Shogun" won 18 Emmy awards in September, the most ever received for a single season of a TV series.

The historical TV series "Shogun" has triumphed at the 2025 Golden Globes, taking Best Television Series - Drama and three other awards. Lead actor Sanada Hiroyuki, who also produced the series, won Best Performance by an actor in the TV drama category.

The FX series, which dominated the Emmy Awards in September, was nominated for four Golden Globes this year – one less than the most-nominated series this year, the FX series “The Bear” – and actors Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano won for best male performance in a television drama and best male supporting actor, respectively.

Anna Sawai took home a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Lady Mariko. More than 40 years ago, the late Yoko Shimada won the very same category for the same role.

Sawai accepted the award for her performance as Toda Mariko in the series at the 2025 Golden Globes on Sunday.
