MADRID (Reuters) -Play at the Madrid Open was cancelled on Monday after a widespread power outage struck the Spanish capital, forcing 15th seed Grigor Dimitrov and his British opponent Jacob Fearnley off court as scoreboards went dark and overhead cameras lost power.

Officials for the Madrid Open cancelled Monday's play amid a blackout in Spain that impacted the tournament's facilities. The blackout caused a number of logistical problems at Caja Mágica with the scoreboards going dark and the loss of lighting to help fans navigate the venue:

Monday’s play at the Madrid Open has been cancelled due to a power outage affecting parts of Spain and Portugal. Britain’s Jacob Fearnley was forced off court when play was initially suspended just after 12.30pm local time.
