Wildfires in Canada have forced thousands of residents to evacuate in three provinces, impacting air quality in the U.S. — and smoke from the deadly fires has even blown across the Atlantic and reached the U.

Roughly 17,000 residents in the Canadian province of Manitoba have been evacuated because of nearly two dozen active wildfires, officials said Saturday.

Manitoba remains in a provincewide state of emergency, due to rapidly spreading wildfires and extreme fire conditions. The Manitoba Wildfire Service (MWS) reports the majority of Manitoba is under extreme fire danger today with small pockets of high fire danger.
