“In April, prices for food purchased from stores grew at a faster pace,” Statistics Canada said. “Prices for food purchased from stores have been increasing at a faster rate than the all-items consumer price index (CPI) for three consecutive months.” The increase in the cost of groceries was 3.8 per cent year over year.

Canada’s annual inflation rate slowed to 1.7% in April, its lowest level since June 2021, according to new data from Statistics Canada. The decline was largely attributed to a significant drop in energy prices following the federal government’s decision to remove the carbon tax on home heating oil.
